A make-over is always a great life time experience. It helps to know what beauty techniques and styles are trending so you can incorporate them into your ‘Get fabulous!’ makeover. Here are some trends causing waves this year.
1. Trust Pink!
Pink is the must-have color on lips this year and it’s set to replace the orange-red that we’ve been saturated with in 2015. Remember to keep the rest of your look toned down if you’re wearing a bold pink on your lips otherwise you risk beauty overkill. Sheer pink lips are one of makeup artist Bobbi Brown’s secrets to staying young, and there are few things more polished than a pink pout. Skip the high-gloss in favor of subtle sexiness.
When choosing pink, make sure it matches your skin tone. Here’s a quick guide:
If you’ve got a fair complexion: opt for a color that’s mixed with a pale coral or choose a bit of a lilac hue, so that you don’t clash with any pink tones you might have in your skin.
If you have medium or olive skin: you can wear most pinks on the spectrum, but those with a brownish tinge work especially well with your skin tone. Choose rich pink if you want to make a stunning statement!
If you have dark skin: you can play around with darker shades, such as purple or blue-toned pinks. Try to stay away from pinks that are too pale, though, as these can make you look pasty.
2. Let Eyes Take Flight
Flicked eyeliner is always classy and sexy, and 2016 spring runway trends displayed its soaring popularity, with Marchesa, Saint Laurent and Prada all flaunting it. To get your winged eyeliner looking perfect instead of messy or crooked, it might help to draw it from the flick towards your eye instead of the other way around. Sorted!
3. Get Dew-Fresh Skin
It’s a trend that’s set to stick around: gorgeous, illuminated skin that looks fresh and healthy, instead of being caked with foundation. Focus on caring for your skin with a healthy diet (avoid these 4 diet mistakes) and lightening your skin to keep it looking incandescent naturally. Use concealers for any problem areas instead of slapping on too much base. It’s about letting your inner glow shine through!
Dew-fresh skin looks especially good when teamed with stick-on eyeliner, another big trend that was spotted on the Dior runway recently. This involves cut pieces of satin that are pasted on eyelids with eyelash glue. Talk about making a statement!
4. Crimp Your Style!
Remember what fun crimping your hair used to be? Well, it’s back and very stylish. Keep it subtle by choosing to crimp sections of your hair and leaving the rest natural. The look works especially well when teamed with a high and sleek ponytail, as seen by Stella McCartney on the spring 2015 runways.
5. Go Grey
Grey hair has started to become a thing in Hollywood, with many young celebrities choosing silver shades. Grey hair gives you a unique edge, plus you can choose a lilac-infused shade (think Kelly Osbourne) or mix it with some blonde à la Kate Moss to keep it youthful and oozing personality.
6. Nail the Masterpiece
There are some eye-catching nail trends lined up for 2016, with nails becoming works of art.
● The half-moon manicure is an interesting idea, but the trick is to use a bold colour in it, such as orange, to make an impact.
● Another trend is to paint the entire nail and then remove most of the color, leaving only the cuticles draped in polish.
● Shake up your beauty box and put a spin on traditional French manicures by using bolder colors instead.
7. Fashion Set to Make Your Mark
Instead of having strict lines in your clothing choices, opt for materials that flow. The dramatic and colorful Bohemian style in particular allows you to relax and let loose a bit this year. White lace is a must-have for your wardrobe, mostly because of how versatile it is: team it up with hard black leather for a rock chic edge, or with pastels for something more feminine and boho chic.
Materials like gingham and suede are also heating up the style trends, while feathers and tassels creep in to give outfits extra flourish. It’s about experimenting with styles and textures this year, bringing in interesting accents to make your mark.
Try out the 2016 trends: work them into your wardrobe and beauty box to spruce up your individual style for a brighter, bolder you.
