With the holidays come numerous holiday parties, dinners, cookie exchanges and many other social events. To show appreciation to those hosting you and your family, it is proper etiquette to bring a hostess gift. The traditional bottle of wine is always a safe bet but I like to get a bit creative and bring something to compliment the home. A gift is always more memorable when the hostess knows there was thought put behind it. I have given some suggestions to different gifts at different prices, all of which provide a new spin on the traditional hostess gift.
2. Books – Books are something that everyone keeps around the home and bring some warmth to bookshelves, coffee tables and offices. Depending on your hostess’ interests, there are numerous books to choose from focused on fashion, cooking, interior design and many more subjects all ranging in prices. Harper’s Bazaar’s Greatest Hits is one of my favorites and this Breakfast at Tiffany’s bound in Tiffany blue is a keepsake.
3. Joe Malone – You just cannot go wrong with Joe Malone. From a beautiful fragrance to candle, any of the products would bring a smile to your hostess’ face. Some of my personal favorites are Pomegranate Noir and Peony and Blush Suede.
4 & 5. Entertaining Accessories – One of the easiest hostess gifts to put together is entertaining pieces. You can put together some barware with your favorite cocktail mixture or a cheese platter with some of your favorite cheeses and chocolates. I adore these Golden Highball Glasses and Be Merry! Cheese Board, both from C.Wonder.
6. Personalized Stationary – Who doesn’t love a monogram? Everyone loves personalized items and a number of retailers carry monogrammed items. Stores like C.Wonder will allow you to personalize something while you wait with a full monogram but you can also pick up initial items such as these Kate Spade NY Monogram Card Set that are ready to wrap.
7. Wine – Okay, so it is a staple and easy standard for hostess. You cannot go wrong with a good bottle of wine. I just cannot leave it off the list. I do suggest making those wine bottles a tad more festive by delivering them in festive wine bags such as these Pottery Barn Embroidered Wine Bags. You can also have some custom bags made such as these Mark and Graham Leather Wine Tote.
Remember, big or small, your hostess will always appreciate the thought you put into their gift.
